Winter cycling socks are thicker than summer models, but not as thick as you like. The limit is set by the cycling shoe, which only offers limited space.

Warmth comes from air, not material

A sock keeps you warm by holding air between the fibres. If it is compressed in the shoe, exactly this effect is lost, and blood circulation suffers at the same time. A medium-thick sock in a shoe with some room is therefore warmer than a very thick sock in a tight shoe.

Two thin socks on top of each other are not a good solution. They shift against each other, form creases and fill the shoe more than a single thicker sock with the same material thickness.

If you ride regularly in winter, a winter shoe half a size larger is a better choice than thicker socks in a summer shoe.
