No matter whether you sweat in your basement on your stationary bicycle or at the gym in an indoor cycling class: on a stationary bike you can work as hard as on a "real" one.
In this context, the right cycling clothing is just as important as your motivation... You don't need much for indoor cycling: you can really do without a helmet, and warm winter cycling clothing is not necessary either. What you need, though, is a good cycling jersey, cycling trousers with a basic chamois, cycling gloves, cycling socks and perhaps cycling shoes. Since there tends to be much perspiration involved in indoor cycling, you should have a headband and a sweat band for your wrist with you. To balance the loss of fluids, it is advisable to take an isotonic sports drink in a cycling bottle to training sessions. For monitoring your performance, a heart rate monitor is recommendable.
