Flat pedal shoes

Flat pedal shoes work with a flat rubber sole that grips the pins of the pedal.

The sole is the key component

The compound and tread are decisive. Soft rubber with a fine, even structure grips the pins better than a coarse knobbly tread. At the same time, the sole is stiffer than on a trainer, so that the foot does not wrap around the pedal axle when pedalling.

Upper

Reinforcements at the toes and ankle are part of it, because that is where hits land off-road. Models for wetter conditions have a denser upper material.

Do not ride flat pedals with trainers as a substitute. A hard running sole slips off the pins, and that is exactly what causes the typical shin injuries.
