Which cycling gloves are suitable for road cycling?

In addition to lightweight, padded summer gloves, lined winter gloves are used for colder rides; despite the insulation, they must retain enough finger sensitivity for precise braking and shifting on the usually smaller road shifters.

Gloves also have an important protective function in a crash, because your palms are often the first to touch the ground when you instinctively put out your hands – one reason why riders rarely go without gloves entirely, even in summer temperatures.

Tip: When buying gloves, test them on the handlebars in your road riding position. Your fingertips must not hit the end of the glove.
