Hammer Nutrition energy bars are solid sports nutrition for long rides. Unlike gels and drinks, you have to chew them and they are digested more slowly, which makes them the food for calmer phases of a tour.
When to eat a bar?
On tours of several hours, your body needs energy regularly. A bar is more filling than a gel and lasts longer. It is suitable for the first half of a long ride, for flat sections or for a short break. Shortly before a hard climb or in a race, a gel is usually the better choice, because it gets into your blood faster and puts less strain on your stomach.
Bars differ greatly in composition and consistency. Some rely mainly on carbohydrates, others also contain protein and fat. What is in them is stated on the packaging.
Tip: Cut into bars or open the wrapper slightly before the ride. Otherwise, it is hard to tear open with gloves on during the ride.
