Summer and winter gloves from Gore Wear do the same basic job: they protect your palms on long rides and in a fall, when you instinctively put your hands out.

Summer or winter?

Summer gloves are usually short-fingered and airy. They improve your grip when your hands are sweaty and dampen some of the handlebar vibration. Winter gloves are long-fingered and keep your fingers warm; in the cold, the fingers cool down first because they rest still on the handlebars and are exposed to the headwind. At Gore Wear, some models use the brand's own windproof or waterproof materials.

Tip: Try on winter gloves with the brakes and gears. If they are too thick, you can no longer modulate the brake lever finely.
