MAAP: From Melbourne to the World
The Australian city of Melbourne has a strong cycling tradition and celebrates elements such as sport, style, and coffee culture. Based on these principles, the founders of MAAP launched the brand in 2014 with the vision of bringing Melbourne’s identity to the world while always maintaining a connection to their roots.
The Beginnings
The brand was built by a multidisciplinary team that still shapes MAAP’s identity today. Among them were graphic designers and professionals from the fashion and sportswear industries.
One thing united them all: a shared passion for cycling.
Cult Status in Record Time
Although the brand is still relatively young, it has quickly built a strong cult following and is already considered one of the most innovative and influential brands in the cycling market.
A major factor behind this success has been numerous collaborations with other brands—particularly from the fashion industry—which were previously unprecedented in the cycling world.
Fashion and Social Media
MAAP was one of the first manufacturers to truly combine fashion with performance. In doing so, the brand became a trendsetter. Until then, most cycling brands focused almost exclusively on functionality. There were highly performance-driven brands with a racing background and others focused more on comfort—but style was rarely a priority.
Brands like MAAP changed that by putting design at the forefront. Today, the brand is not only available at style-focused cycling retailers such as Bobshop but also in premium boutiques, and it is regularly featured in influential fashion publications like GQ and Vogue.
This allows the Australians to reach a remarkably broad audience that extends far beyond traditional road cyclists, helping to make the sport itself more fashionable.
For many people, MAAP has been a key factor in cycling’s transformation over the past years—from an “old man’s sport” into a trendy, modern lifestyle sport.
A major contributor to this success is the brand’s strategic use of social media. MAAP is active across almost all major platforms and connects with a diverse audience. The “Life in the Peloton” podcast by former professional cyclist Mitch Docker, for example, explores topics such as the cult status of the cycling cap and the almost religious debate over whether its brim should be worn up or down.
Sustainability
Alongside performance and style, MAAP has always placed strong emphasis on fair and sustainable production. A large portion of the collection is produced in Europe—often in Italy. Many products incorporate recycled materials or natural fibers such as merino wool.
Style in the Peloton
In 2025, MAAP enters the WorldTour—the highest level of professional cycling—for the first time as an official team outfitter. The choice almost naturally falls on the GreenEDGE team, the only WorldTour team with an Australian license. With this step, the brand aims to prove that it has reached the very top not only in terms of style but also technologically. Together with the team, MAAP develops new products, conducts wind-tunnel testing, and incorporates feedback from countless training sessions and race kilometers into future innovations.
