Which rain jackets are suitable for trail and enduro?

For trail and enduro, robust, fully waterproof rain jackets with reinforced zones on the shoulders are suitable; besides wet conditions, they also withstand contact with branches and occasional crashes on technical terrain better than the lighter rain jackets used in cross-country or road cycling.

Welded rather than stitched seams stop water from getting in at the joins in continuous rain, while a looser cut provides freedom of movement for the active, body-driven riding style on technical descents. Large vent zips under the arms allow quick adjustment between sweaty climbs and cooler, often fast descents.

An extended back also protects against spray from the rear wheel, which occurs much more often on muddy trails than on dry tarmac.

Many models also offer enough room for a back protector worn underneath without restricting freedom of movement – a detail that usually plays no role with pure road jackets.

Tip: After several washes, refresh the water-repellent treatment on the outside regularly, as water repellency decreases over time, even if the membrane itself remains waterproof.
