Energy gels

A gel supplies a measured portion of carbohydrates in a form that you can swallow even with a high heart rate. That is exactly its purpose: under load, digestion is limited, and solid food then sits heavily in the stomach.

What counts on the pack

The grams of carbohydrates per sachet are the most important figure. As a guideline, 60 to 90 grams per hour apply for intense exercise, depending on how used to it you are.

With or without caffeine

Gels with caffeine are designed for the second half. If you take them too early, you have nothing left in reserve later.

Test new gels in training. Tolerance varies a lot from person to person.
