The MTB shoe
Specialized MTB shoes take SPD-compatible 2-bolt cleats recessed into the sole. This means you can also push and walk short distances. The sole is stiff for power transfer and has a tread for grip off-road.
For cross-country there are light, stiff models, and for trail and enduro more robust shoes with more protection at the toe.
Tip: Clean mud off the cleats on MTB shoes regularly so that they clip in cleanly.
