The base layers from Gore Wear include long-sleeve base layers, among others. Models with a windproof front are therefore more of an additional protective layer than a pure functional shirt.
Why underwear for cycling?
A base layer lies directly on the skin and wicks sweat outwards. This keeps your skin drier than if the jersey lay directly on it, and you cool down less on the descent. In winter, a long-sleeve base layer also provides warmth; in summer, a thin sleeveless model keeps your skin dry.
Tip: Base layers with flat seams chafe less under a backpack.
