Bike shirts are the counterpart to the close-fitting cycling jersey.

Why the loose cut makes sense

On the trail, you rarely sit still. You shift your weight, get low over the handlebar, stand in the berm. A tight jersey restricts you; a looser shirt follows the movement. There is also room for protectors: under a bike shirt, there is room for elbow pads or a back protector vest without anything pulling.

In enduro, long sleeves are common even in summer, because they protect the forearms in crashes and from contact with branches.

Check the length while sitting on the bike. A shirt that is too short rides up in a low position and exposes the lower back.
