When are sleeveless base layers suitable for cycling?

Sleeveless base layers are suitable for the warm season, when ventilation under the jersey is more important than extra warmth. They are the lightest level of cycling base layers.

Even under high load, the skin stays relatively dry, because the fabric passes sweat to the outside. Without sleeves, there is noticeably more airflow at the armpits. Flat seams keep the base layer free of pressure points under a close-fitting jersey.

Tip: A sleeveless base layer goes best with a sleeveless jersey; otherwise, the sleeve edges show at the shoulders under the outer material.
