When are long bike trousers suitable for trail and enduro?

Long bike trousers are suitable for trail and enduro above all in the cooler season or on particularly technical terrain with dense undergrowth, where the loose outer cut also protects against scratches from branches and thorns, while separate inner shorts still provide seating comfort.

Despite the extra length, the loose cut typical of trail and enduro is retained, leaving room for knee pads under the trousers without constricting. More robust materials at the knees and shins also withstand contact with undergrowth and occasional crashes better than thinner road trousers.

Adjustable cuffs at the ankle also stop the loose fabric from getting caught in the chain, which is an important difference given the looser fit compared to tight cycling tights.

Tip: With long bike trousers, make sure there is enough room at the knees so that knee pads do not constrict and your freedom of movement is not restricted when you lower the dropper post.
