Cycling jerseys in signal colours and with reflective prints are designed for everyone who rides in traffic all year round or regularly in the dark months.
Colour by day, reflection at night
During the day and at dusk, colour decides. Neon yellow and neon orange stand out most reliably against road, tarmac and autumn vegetation, while black and dark blue blend into the background. At night, reflective prints take over, which only light up in headlights.
The same rule applies to jerseys as to jackets: what is visible is what faces outwards in the riding position. That is the back, shoulders and sleeves. A reflective print on the chest is of little use, because it points downwards in a bent-over position.
In winter, there is a side effect. A jersey in a signal colour under a dark jacket does nothing as long as the jacket stays closed. If visibility matters to you, choose the outermost layer accordingly, not the one underneath.
Even a summer jersey in a signal colour noticeably improves visibility. If you need a new one anyway, you can choose the colour with this in mind.
