Why a base layer?

A cycling base layer lies close to the skin and absorbs sweat before the jersey gets wet. This keeps your skin drier, and you get less cold on the descent. In summer, thin, airy models are common; in winter, warmer ones with long sleeves.

A material that wicks moisture is important. Cotton is unsuitable because it retains the wet.

Tip: Choose the Santini base layer so that it does not show through the jersey or form creases.
