A bicycle mirror shows you what is happening behind you, without making you turn your head. At Bobshop, you will find rearview mirrors from CatEye, Zéfal, and Ergon, mostly for mounting at the handlebar end or on the handlebar.
Who is a bicycle mirror worth it for?
Mainly for everyday riding, commuting, and touring. If you ride in traffic every day or with luggage, you benefit the most, because the shoulder check is least safe there.
Which mount fits which handlebar?
Bar-end mirrors are pushed into the open tube and need a matching inner diameter, usually in the range of 16 to 22 millimeters. They sit securely and stick out far, which widens the field of view. Alternatively, mirrors are attached directly to the handlebar with a clamp.
What should you look for in the mirror surface?
Convex mirrors, meaning ones curved outward, show a larger section but make vehicles look farther away than they are. Flat mirrors show distances more accurately but cover less. For road traffic, the convex type is usually the more practical one. Also check whether the mirror can be folded in. That protects it when parked and in tight basement hallways.
Adjust the mirror in your usual riding position, with your hands on the handlebar. A mirror set while sitting upright will otherwise show your own upper arm instead of the road.
