Tour de Suisse 2025: big names, tough mountains and a clear commitment to safety

The Tour de Suisse 2025 is one of the most important stage races in international cycling – and will once again make Switzerland the center of the cycling world from June 15 to 22. The 88th edition of this prestigious tour will feature 1,280 kilometers of excitement, 20,000 meters of elevation gain, and eight spectacular stages. Whether it's Alpine passes, time trials, or thrilling sprints, the Tour de Suisse is a real highlight for cycling fans in Switzerland and far beyond.

The route: From Küssnacht to Stockhütte – across Switzerland and over the border

The stages of the 2025 Tour de Suisse will take riders through some of the most beautiful and challenging regions of the country. The race kicks off in Küssnacht with a fast-paced circuit. It then continues via Aarau, Heiden and the impressive Splügen Pass to Piuro (Italy). The queen stage between La Punt and Santa Maria features two true classics of Alpine cycling: the Julier Pass and the San Bernardino Pass. The crowning finale is the mountain time trial to the Stockhütte – a technically and physically demanding final act where every second counts.

The favorites: WorldTeams at full strength and Swiss home teams with heart

The 2025 Tour de Suisse will bring together the world's best UCI WorldTeams – and everything that makes professional cycling so fascinating: tactics, speed, and team spirit at the highest level. Whether it's UAE Team Emirates-XRG, Lidl–Trek, INEOS Grenadiers, Jumbo-Visma or Soudal Quick-Step – they are all traveling to Switzerland with clear ambitions to win stages and dominate the overall classification.

But the home colors are also strongly represented: with Tudor Pro Cycling and Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team, two Swiss ProTeams are lining up that know the terrain inside out and could provide some emotional moments with their dedication. They are keen to make their mark on home turf – against the biggest names in the sport.

Safety in cycling: consequences of Gino Mäder's accident

Safety at the Tour de Suisse was fundamentally revised following the tragic death of Gino Mäder in 2023. A newly formed team of experts – including independent safety specialists such as the head of Primeo Energie – analyzes each stage from an external perspective. Instead of individuals, five specialists are now responsible for assessing the risks of the race route. High-speed corners are particularly dangerous, as they pose an increased risk of crashes for modern racing bikes with high rims and narrow handlebars. Targeted measures such as marshals, protective mats, and preventive hazard communication to teams minimize the risk – for greater safety in international professional cycling.

For spectators: Be there live – on the track or in front of the screen

Whether on site or digitally, experiencing the Tour de Suisse 2025 live is an unforgettable experience. In the stage towns, visitors can look forward to public viewings, festivities, autograph sessions with the riders, and numerous activities for children and families. In Emmetten (on June 21), the region around the Stockhütte will be transformed into a huge cycling fan zone. For those who can't be there in person, every stage will be broadcast live on TV and online every day – ideal for anyone who wants to follow professional cycling in Switzerland from the comfort of their own home.
