Winter jerseys are the layer between base layer and jacket. They are brushed on the inside, have long sleeves and can also be worn on their own on mild days.

The forgotten middle layer

In winter, many people buy a good jacket and good base layers and wear a summer jersey in between. That is exactly where warmth is lost.

On days around five to ten degrees, a winter jersey with a gilet is enough, and the thick jacket stays at home. In frost, it goes over the top, without you having to change the layer underneath.

One difference to summer jerseys concerns the pockets. On winter models, they are under the brushed inner layer, which makes access with thick gloves more difficult. Models with an additional zipped pocket are noticeably more practical here.

Look for a high collar. The gap between the jersey neckline and the jacket collar is where cold air is most likely to get in during winter.
