Roeckl winter gloves: Cold fingers are a thing of the past

Roeckl: High-Quality Cycling Gloves for Winter

Roeckl, the traditional Munich-based company, is renowned for its glove quality. As Roeckl Sports, the company enriches various outdoor sports, including equestrianism and skiing.

This winter sports expertise also benefits the cycling gloves from Roeckl. Below, we have compiled some tips on how to protect your hands from the cold, ensuring you're well-prepared for the winter season:

The Challenge of Winter Training

Cold and wet conditions are often cited as reasons to avoid cycling in winter. Without protection against the elements, this is quite understandable. Hands need to grip the handlebars and are exposed to the cold wind and grip.

How to meet these challenges is exemplified by the Rocca GTX Winter Cycling Glove. In the outer hand, Gore Tex Infinium is used in Vapor Flex Softshell material. This high-quality membrane effectively blocks wind and water—keeping the elements outside. At the same time, the material is breathable, preventing uncomfortable heat build-up that could result from high training performance.

The inner hand is optimized to provide secure and waterproof grip on the handlebars during the cold season. The Rocca glove uses All-Weather Grip Durasense for this purpose. This Roeckl creation offers high tactility, meaning a good feel for the bike and handlebars.

The sports glove also includes cycling-specific padding, touchscreen compatibility, wipe thumbs, and more—Roeckl standards that you won't want to miss once you've experienced them.

How Warm Should It Be?

For those who want to cycle in very cold temperatures, a glove with additional insulating padding is recommended. Two factors should be considered:

Firstly, the quality of the inner lining. Cheap padding can combat cold but soon leads to heat and liquid build-up. For enjoyable cycling, serious materials are needed.

An understandably popular insulating lining is PrimaLoft. The PrimaLoft Gold used in the Villach 2 Winter Cycling Glove is very light, very warm, and highly breathable. Other linings, such as Polartec Alpha, also offer warming functionality.

The second factor is straightforward: For what temperature is the glove designed? For Central European winters, gloves with less insulation are usually sufficient, while much more is needed in Scandinavia.

Our tip: To save you from extensive research, Bobshop has categorized gloves according to ice crystal temperatures. This way, you can quickly see the suitable temperatures for the gloves.

Over and Undergloves as a Flexible Alternative

Most people are familiar with layering or the good old onion layer. What many don't know is that layering is also possible with sports gloves!

There are two variations: Either you already have robust gloves that you want to complement with a warm underlayer. In this case, Roeckl offers Merino undergloves or silk undergloves.

But there's also an alternative. If you already have perfectly padded and comfortable gloves that aren't well-prepared for rain or snow, you can "upgrade" weather resistance and firm grip on the handlebars with suitable cover gloves.

The advantage of both variations: Adjustment couldn't be easier.

The ECO.SERIES: Making Winter Warmth Sustainable

Outdoor sports enthusiasts are usually nature lovers as well. It's all the more frustrating that not all functional materials can be environmentally friendly or replaced by alternatives.

From material sourcing to production and shipping, Roeckl works to make the manufacturing process as climate-neutral and socially responsible as possible. In the popular ECO.SERIES, the first step was to use as much recycled material as possible. The winter cycling gloves Valepp are an excellent example that recycling doesn't compromise functionality.

However, this challenge wasn't enough for the Munich-based company. Recycling processes couldn't produce high-quality hand padding, so they researched alternatives. The result: Biocore. An impressive 45% of this cushioning is made from plant-based material, carefully and environmentally consciously cultivated. Those who have worn a Biocore glove like Rainau can confirm that Biocore matches or even surpasses conventional padding.

But Roeckl can go even further: In collaboration with Gore, the used Gore Tex membrane is free of harmful polyfluorinated chemicals (PFC) and has a high recycling content. The result: The Roeckl Rosegg GTX winter cycling glove. All previous insights have been incorporated into these excellent gloves to create a sustainable, warm masterpiece.
