You are surely familiar with the situation: you own a super cool and expensive bike. Riding it is so much fun, and you are happy with the bike. However, what gives you a headache every time is parking the bike on the street. You fear bike thieves! And that's justified because in Germany alone, nearly 280,000 bicycle thefts were reported in 2019. The actual number is likely much higher.
Of course, you have a lock for the bike, but taking it with you all the time is often impractical. Secure locks for expensive bikes are usually very heavy and bulky. And simply taking the bike into the office or cafe is not always welcomed.
Finding the right bike lock is a real challenge: if the lock is stable and tamper-proof, then it's heavy. On the other hand, lightweight locks are easy to break.
Especially road cyclists are meticulous about every gram of weight on the bike and equipment. And should they carry several kilograms of heavy locks just to prevent the bike from being stolen during a break? It's almost unthinkable!
Even the British industrial designer and avid cyclist Neil Barron struggled for many years, annoyed, with a tank lock over his shoulders through the streets of London. Then he developed the ultimate bike lock... Litelok.
The innovative Litelok bike lock
With Litelok, the advantages of lightweight locks (low weight and high flexibility) were combined, eliminating the disadvantages of heavy locks (high weight and rigidity).
The basis for the innovative Litelok bike locks is a new patented composite material called Boaflexicore:
- The smooth, multi-layered material is very secure. It withstands bolt cutters, pry bars, and hacksaws
- The material is super flexible. Like a strap, the bike can be attached to posts, fences, railings, etc.
- Since it has no steel core, the material is very light.
A durable fabric cover, offered in various color styles, protects the Boaflexicore band. The lock housings made of hardened steel are designed so that they offer little surface area for opening. Only one click is needed to close, and a key is required to open. The keys are marked and can be registered with Litelok after purchase. An additional key or a replacement key can be easily ordered and delivered.
The Litelok product range
Litelok categorizes its locks according to the standards of the British security product tester "Sold Secure" (testing and certification of theft security products in collaboration with police and insurance companies, the counterpart of the German VdS). Sold Secure Gold locks guarantee the highest level of security, Sold Secure Silver locks offer a compromise between security and price.
In the Gold category, Litelok offers:
-
The Litelok Gold Original: The prototype and the first of all Litelok locks. It weighs 1.1 kg, is 74 cm long and 5 cm wide, with a diameter of 24.5 cm. The delivery includes 2 Velcro straps for attachment to the frame during rides.
-
The Litelok Gold Wearable: It is longer than the Original and can be parked like a belt around the waist during the ride. Circumference and weight vary depending on the ordered size (S, M, or L). The lock housing is slightly different in design so that it can be detached from the hip without a key and only requires a key to open it on the bike.
In the Silver category, a slimmer Litelok variant in U or O shape is offered:
-
Litelok Silver Flexi O: at only 630 g (smallest length), one of the lightest and most secure bike locks ever. The Boaflexicore band is slightly narrower than in the Gold version, and the lock housing is correspondingly slimmer. It is offered in 3 lengths and can be fixed to the frame with Velcro straps.
-
Litelok Silver Flexi U: the first flexible U-lock is available in two sizes. It weighs only 641 g (smallest size). A proven U-shape in a very practical design!
In addition, there are some accessories for the locks, such as protective covers, fastening straps, of course, an extra sturdy motorcycle lock, and last but not least, theft insurance for bicycles.
Conclusion:
Admittedly, the price of Litelok locks makes you flinch at first. But how intense would that flinch be if you wanted to use your bike, and it was simply gone, ... stolen, ... never to be seen again?! And all because the secure chain lock was too impractical and heavy, and you preferred a lightweight one. Especially in big cities, bicycle theft is almost operated like a gang. And especially in big cities, the number of e-bikes and similarly expensive bicycles is steadily increasing.
Litelok locks are the solution to maximize theft protection in a very easy, light, and practical way. And ... Litelok drives bicycle thieves to despair!
